Match Referee Announcement re: #DropGate The defendant: Mr Daniel Fox Key Witnesses: Mr David Kendall, The matter in question: Upon review photographic evidence, it is suggested that Mr Fox contravened Rule 13 of Official R&A rules by grounding his club whilst in a Water Hazard. Mr Fox’s defence was originally based on being unaware of the rule, however later changed his statement to that he had already failed to register a score by the time the matter occurred. Mr Kendall was called upon to provide evidence. Verdict: It is clear that Mr Fox did contravene Official R&A rules. Penalty: The following penalties have been decided: • The Official R&A Penalty of 2 x strokes will take effect • Mr Fox will be subject to 1 x large fine, to be decided by the Fines Officer Penalty Outcome: • As the penalty does not alter Mr Fox’s stableford score on the hole in question, society points will not be altered Additional Comments: • New rules will be added to the bulletin board to prevent controversy like this occurring in future
