'Err, that were quite good that.' When a player earns such high praise from Tim, it is clear he must have played a fine round of golf. In the Southern Regional Final of the BUAFCGS Matchplay, Tommy Arnold played one of the finest rounds in society history. An outstanding final strokeplay of +4 ensured the final will be contested between the heavy hitters Arnold and Hanson. Mop, Tommy and special referee Tim met at the illustrious Oxford City course, a course first suggested by Sloth, and took to the first tee in anticipation. Unfortunately both matchplay competitors proceeded to shank their opening shots 25 yards through the dew. An opening half was followed by a long pressure putt from Mop on 2, putting him 1 up, a lead he maintained with fine play until the 4th hole. Mop continued to fire the ball in the right general direction, but a first birdie of the day set Arnold on the road to glory. An incredible run of -1 over the next 6 holes ensured the match was in the bag by the turn. Tim played pretty well by the way. Tommy remained faultless off the tee throughout the back 9. Mop managed to salvage some pride by winning the 11th, bringing it back to -5. Two tied holes led the competitors to the 14th hole; a challenging par 4. With no extra shot on the hole Mop knew he would have to play at his peak to extend the match. And he did! Chipping in to make a fantastic par! But this was no obstacle for the irrepressible Arnold. On the green for 2, Arnold knew he had a tricky 2 putt to win the tie. He also knew that 2 putts are for Churcher standard golfers. One twenty footer later and Tommy had birdied his way to the grand final. The match was played in fine spirits. Tommy showed a new level of sportsmanship and his role in 'presumed gimmie gate' will have been noted by official referee Tim. Both players demonstrated the progress they have made throughout the year and Tommy has shown himself to be the bookies favourite for this year's matchplay title and the a repeat of the overall crown in the 2015/16 season. The grand final awaits
