Reflections of a reinvigorated golfer

Since I earned my Green Jacket, life has changed. I have no doubt that my champion peers can relate to this. One of the most frequent questions I am asked by spectators and supporters is; What does BUAFCGS stand for?

What does BUAFCGS stand for? A simple, yet profound question. I often wonder, should I answer in the literal sense, simply informing the captivated questioner that I am a member of the Brunel University Association Football Club Golf Society? Or should I go deeper? Should I let them in to the inner sanctums of a world built on moral integrity and brotherly love?

BUAFCGS - Being Universally Accepting, Flawlessly Civil Golf Stars.

Inclusion is key for BUAFC. Sure, our roots are set on the sticky floor of Football Corner, but the Golf Society has become a beacon of inclusion in a world of division and hate. Non Brunellians regularly walk the fairways with proud Uxbridge folk. Our 2019 cohort is more diverse than ever, in no small part thanks to our expert recruitment officer, PCSO Wilson. Long may our growth continue.

BUAFCGS – Battling Unfairness And Fiercely Celebrating Good Scores

The standard of golf has never been higher. Since developing the tradition, society members bask in the glory of heartfelt praise when placing each and every scorecard in to the famed WhatsApp group. Thanks to this positivity and unshakeable integrity, illustrious Handicap Officer Jim Wee is able to ensure that each tournament tees off with an entirely accurate set of handicaps. Even the great Snake himself is now within 5 shots of his VPar rating. Progress indeed!

BUAFCGS – Beers, Unbelievable Atmosphere, Friendly Chat, Genuinely Social

‘Golf is not a matter of life and death; it’s slightly less important than that.’ Bob Bubka’s immortal words ring as true now as they ever have. We are all chasing the glory of the green jacket. We all wake up in the deep midwinter, fantasising over hosting Champions Dinners of the future. We all love the feeling of an Aimpoint Draino. Above all this though, above everything, is a camaraderie that knows no bounds.

After all the pathgates, borrowed balls, spike-marked greens and Boundary Lake botches, it is friendship and love that makes us special.

So to all past, current and future members of BUAFCGS I say congratulations and thank you, you Bloody Unique, Absolutely Fantastic Chaps. Golf Steady.
