The St Andrews of BUAFCGS, ‘the home of golf’; Blake’s golf club is a special place. Whether it’s the smell of sick in the toilets from last nights wedding or the greens that look like tee boxes. It gives me great pleasure as the current holder of the prestigious title to take you on a trip down memory lane.

May 2014 saw the formation of the illustrious BUAFCGS and with that the first society event. Officially titled ‘The World Cup Open’ it has since been renamed The May Masters. One thing is for certain, with a winning score of 33 points it’s fair to say no man mastered anything on that fateful day.

The low scoring affair is a testament to the challenge you face when you play such a prestigious course. Small margins will no doubt make the difference and on a personal level I hope I can be on the right side of #fringegate this time round.

There’s no question the society has come along way in the five years since this historic competition. The 🐍 is a fitting example, he goes into next weeks competition as my favourite to lift the cup. However, this time five years ago he finished stone last with a pathetic 20 points. There’s no denying I, along with every other member of the BUAFCGS would like nothing more than to see a repeat of this, and if any course has the capacity to chew you up and make you it’s bitch Blake’s is it.

I myself will be trying to create society history in becoming the first man to hold a title for a decade. I wish all competitors the very best of luck. Whatever happens on the day, golf is sure to be the winner.
